I took Caleb to see the allergist yesterday. He has been having some issues so I wanted to get him checked out. I was surprised to find out he has a mild allergy to peanuts. I am so glad to find this out because I serve alot of PB&J sandwiches! I hate to think I have been contributing to Caleb's breathing issues. I am glad to know that I need to start coming up with other lunch options. Unfortunately, Caleb does not like lunch meat very well and he also does not like grilled cheese sandwiches; so, I am going to have to have to think outside my tiny "lunch idea" box :) I welcome any quick and easy suggestions.
With a child who has asthma, I am grateful to find out a way I might be able to prevent his asthma attacks from coming on. If you a need a good Allergist, I recommend Dr. Merrit in Bentonville. I am very thankful for her and her thoroughness.
I hope you have a great weekend!
Good Night!

Can he have Nutella? That has hazelnuts, so unless he is allergic to all nuts that might me a good option. Neely likes vienna sausages (gross), and they are super easy. Neely also LOVES bologna. The key for her to eat lunch meat is to make them not into sandwiches, but stacked with crackers or rolled up.
ReplyDeleteHi. I came here by way of Kelly's Korner, but when I read about the nut allergy I can relate. Our home is full of food allergies, and peanuts is one of our allergies. We use almond butter instead of peanuts and eat almonds instead also. Almonds are actually from a different family so they are safe for us I would check with the dr. first, but our allergist said they are usually safe. Almond butter is more expensive, and is found in the "health food" section of the grocery usually, but when pb&j is a comfort food, an ab&j is a great substitute. Be sure to check the labels because some use peanut oil, Blue diamond almonds are safe and the almond butter we have found we like the best is kettle brand. I dump it out in the food processor mix it up an then put it in the fridge. It is usually separated when I get it. I have also made almond butter cookies and they were great! Sorry to hear about the allergies, that is tough, but I can totally relate.
